Wednesday

A special day, so I made a special breakfast, smoked haddock fishcakes with a poached egg. A trip to The National Railway museum, is planned for the morning. http://www.nrm.org.uk/

The National Railway Museum, houses many working  trains including the Flying Scotsman, which unfortunately wasn’t there today, a poster announces its return after refurbishment in August 2011.

The only bullet train, outside of Japan was also on show, capable of speeds up to 350 mph.

We decide to sit down after an hour's tour to have a cup of tea £1.50 and a bit of a rest. ( everyone serves “yorkshire tea”). Before we continue our visit.

The Station Hall exhibiting Queen Victoria’s carriage from the Royal Train, is closed due to repair and will be open in July 2011.
A short walk into the City and we arrive at “little Betty’s” tearoom in Stonegate, this being the smaller of the 2 sites , less busy and not so commercial. http://www.bettys.co.uk/

We treat ourselves to a traditional “Ritz style” afternoon tea, sandwiches and cakes. £23.00, for a little more you can have a glass of pink champagne, lesley didn’t fancy that.

Whilst sat at the window table we are able to look down upon a scene being filmed for an ITV series due to be released in the Autumn staring Timothy West son.
