Thursday

The weather couldn’t make up its mind today, sunny for a while then showers, but very close. We wear our waterproof light weight jacket , take a rucksack and we are off. We shall complete the City wall today, the last piece being around the Minster. Before all that though we are going to visit the York Museum, claimed to be the second oldest in England.
The Museum is built around the remains of the Roman Fort and St Mary’s Abbey which was destroyed by Henry the eighth.

The tour starts with a Historical look back video of the past centuries of  the occupation of the City, first by the Romans and later the Vikings and on to modern day. The rest of the displays deal with the medievil time in York, the Victorian developments and some interresting artifacts and pieces collected by many scholars. They deal with Dinosaurs and rare species some now extinct.
We stop for a coffee break and although its from a machine £1.00 it’s not bad.
After a short break we
head out back into the streets, now busy with shoppers and tourists alike. Our destination lies slightly north of the tourists hotspots and onto the remains  of the wall. This being the last section of the 3 miles of wall that still surrounds the City. This section however does have as many people walking it, little dothey know it affords the best high level view of the Minster.

Several gates later and we decide to drop into Morrison’s supermarket for some treats and a big box of the local tea “Yorkshire Tea” strong flavoured and great value at £4.00 for 240 bags.
