Early start, 7.30am petrol station for a fill up and away we go. M5, 90 miles up to Bromsgrove, then the M42. We stop at Strensham services for breakfast. A sausage in a bread roll, prepared the night before re heated under the grill.

Just before merging with the M1,we stop at Tamworth    Services for a change of driver. My turn at the wheel. No more Mr nice guy, hanging back being boxed in. Ok only whilst Lesley didnt notice then it was back  to driving like I was dragging a huge weight behind me, "oh but I am!"And like she says we are achieving 40 mpg.

Awning up, boy do we need the shade, 28 deg. Dont we know it. We drink our last sip of tea and eat a piece of fruit loaf with plum jam, before setting of for a 2 mile walk. I suggest the southern part of the wall, the views are wonderful, especially of the magnificent York Minster, who’s towers stand high above the City. Alot of people seem  to have agreed with us and are soon queing to pass the tight bits.

Our first visit to York (aged  22 )

We head quickly back to the van, as it is now getting late, we can have another cup of tea, I can soak my feet in a bowl of cold water (don’t ask), and then write this blog of our first day. After which I need to prepare the Cadac for dinner.
